Question:
May an outside speaker meet with student-athletes to discuss life after graduation, career opportunities, etc. and provide them with a CD containing information about various careers?
Answer:
Yes. Bylaw 16.3.1.1 allows institutions to provide student-athletes with academic counseling, tutoring, and other support services. This includes on-campus student-development and career counseling utilizing outside resources. The legislation specifically permits the provision of related materials having little or no commercial value to student-athletes (e.g., informational packet, CD, etc.).
