Never in my life have I seen a game such as the one that was played out at Floyd Casey Stadium Saturday night. Prior to the game, I would not have told you that the game would have lasted as long as it did, much less end the way it did. It was an amazing experience and I know I will never forget it and probably not expect another game to end the way it did. But obviously our football team can take a game into overtime and come out on top and we are prepared to do that again, if necessary, to win more football games.
As a captain, I could not be more proud of the way that our guys played. There was so much heart and emotion displayed in this game by our team. It came down to what team wanted it the most would win, and it obviously was us. Texas A&M is clearly a very good football team and this win gives a huge boost to our university, our football program and all that support Baylor.
All three phases of the game came out in force the way we should have been playing all year. The offense, led by Shawn (Bell), Dominique (Zeigler), and Trent (Shelton), along with a superior effort by our offensive line, led this team to victory. The defense did what we set out to do, and we flew around like nothing I have seen since perhaps the North Texas game. The special teams also did their part and won that part of the game.
Although we just played and won a game that will be remembered around here for some time, it is time to move on. We have a tremendous challenge this week with Texas Tech. They have good talent and a fine system. A great week of preparation will be much needed to build off of last week, and there will be no doubt in my mind that if we play the way we can play and are supposed to play, we will come back to Waco with another win for the year.
Thanks again for your continued support for Baylor and our football program.
God bless,
Justin
