WACO, Texas - Women's tennis has four players competing in two different locations this weekend, Zuzana Zemenova and Klara Zrustova are in California and Zuzana Krchnakova and Iva Mihaylova are playing in Houston.
Zemenova and Zrustova each received byes in the first round of the Fall Desert Classic in Palm Springs, Calif., and both ladies won second round singles matches. Zemenova defeated Texas' Kelly Baritot, 6-2, 6-2 while Zrustova downed Eva Dickes of Pepperdine, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-0. Doubles results were not available at press time. Action will continue on Saturday.
At the Cougar Fall Classic hosted by the University of Houston, Krchnakova and Mihaylova were both competing the the red singles flight. Both players received first round byes and each won second round matches prior to elimination in the third round. Krchnakova defeated Katherine Harris of North Texas in a hard-fought second round match, downing Harris 3-6, 6-1 (10-6). Krchnakova was eliminated by Pavla Mesterova of UT-Arlington 6-1, 6-1. Mihaylova advanced to the third round with a win over Kelly Royer of North Texas but dropped her third round match to UTA's Daniela Novakova 6-3, 6-4. In doubles action, the duo drew a first round bye and came back from being down 5-0 to defeat Magali Risoleo and Urska Doversek of McNeese, 9-7.
