WACO, Texas - Junior quarterback Dane King has decided to leave the program, Baylor football head coach Guy Morriss announced Wednesday. According to King, he will transfer to Henderson State, a Division II school in Arkadelphia, Ark.
"We're disappointed to see Dane go," Morriss said. "We made it clear to Dane that he would enter spring practice as the starter. Unfortunately, he feels his opportunities are better elsewhere. Dane was a vital part of our team, and he will be missed."
King started Baylor's first seven games of the 2004 season before sustaining a season-ending hand injury in the Bears' Oct. 23 game against Iowa State. In his first season at Baylor after transferring from Blinn Junior College, King completed 131 of 222 passes (59.0 percent) for 1,370 yards and nine touchdowns with 10 interceptions. King's completion percentage was the second-best single-season mark in school history; he also ranked ninth in single-season completions.
