GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Baylor men's golf team concluded the third and final round at the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Sunday by finishing 10th, resulting in their fifth consecutive top-ten finish.
Baylor (887) was led by junior Ryan Baca (76-69-72=217) who finished tied for 15th individually while battling strong winds and even a rain delay in the final round on the 6,701-yard, par 70 University of Florida Golf Course.
Freshman Jeremy Frye (71-73-79=223) and senior Jon Antunes (76-71-76=223) battled through the tough third round conditions and both managed to finish in a tie for 41st overall. Freshman Jeremy Alcorn (75-72-80=227) finished the tournament tied for 58th, while Senior Will Doughtie (78-75-77=230) concluded the event with a 65th place finish.
Top-ranked and host Florida (848) won the invitational by 11 strokes over UAB (859). Kentucky (866), North Florida (867), and Alabama (872) rounded out the top-five teams.
UAB's Chris Cousins took individual medalist honors with a 3-under par total of 207 (67-70-70), finishing three strokes ahead of Tennessee's David Skinns (72-68-70=210).
Baylor had to deal with an hour and a half rain delay and 15-18 mph wind gusts throughout the day, but still managed another good finish to start the spring season off. The Bears will return to action on Mar. 1-2 when they play at the UTSA Roadrunner Invitational in San Antonio.
