WACO, Texas - The No. 35 Baylor women's tennis team fell to No. 22 Miami 6-1 on Sunday afternoon in Florida.
Miami took the lead early, sweeping the doubles point with wins at all three positions. Playing at the No. 1 spot Baylor's 37th-ranked doubles team Stephanie Balzert and Daria Potapova were upset by Miami's Melissa Applebaum and Megan Bradley 8-3.
Baylor's one point of the match came from the No. 4 spot as junior Daria Potapova defeated Staci Stevens 7-5,7-6(5). The Hurricane's first points in singles competition came at the No. 2 and No. 5 spots, respectively, as Daniela Covello was defeated 6-1,6-2 by Mari Toro, and Iva Mihaylova was also defeated 6-1, 6-2 by Audrey Banada. Miami clinched the match at the No. 3 spot as Applebaum defeated Klara Zrustova 7-6(5), 6-1. The win was topped off with victories over No. 49 Carolin Walter and Izabela Mijic at the No. 1 and No. 6 spots, both going to three sets after Baylor's winning the first.
Baylor's record falls to 2-6 overall while the Miami Hurricanes improve to 5-1, leading the all-time series 3-1 over the Bears.
