WACO, Texas -- The Baylor football team went through a two-hour and 20-minute practice Thursday afternoon on the Floyd Casey Stadium grass practice fields.
"We wanted to see good rhythm and tempo, corrected assignments, and see them at least focus and concentrate on the technical things," second-year coach Guy Morriss said after putting his team through its second spring practice. "With no pads, you are not going to have a lot of collisions out there. But, the detail stuff, you can work on without pads on and we tried to emphasize that a little bit more today.
""If we can improve from a technical standpoint, then we are going to be a better football team," he added. "You'd like to be out here in pads, but there's still a lot to be gained out here. We are excited about seeing where we are as coaches and try and measure a little progress with our football team. The players are having a good time, and that's good."
The Bears will return to work at 9 a.m. on Saturday with a full-pad workout that will include some contact drills. Saturday's practice is scheduled to be held on the new playing surface at Floyd Casey Stadium provided the project is completed in time.
Remaining Baylor spring workouts, which are open to the public, are scheduled for March 27 (9 a.m.), 30 (2:30 p.m.), April 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15 with the annual Green-Gold Spring Game set for April 17 at Floyd Casey Stadium.
