The 35th-ranked Baylor women's tennis team defeated No. 71 Nebraska 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in Waco at the Baylor Tennis Center. Baylor has now gained their first conference win with the victory and holds a season record of 3-7, while Nebraska is 0-2 in conference play and 8-3 on the season.

Nebraska won the first point of the match early in doubles competition with quick wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. In the No. 3 spot, Stephanie Balzert and Izabela Mijic fell to Anna Oehme and Milena Schulz-Gartner 8-2. Next to finish were Daniela Covello and Klara Zrustova in the No. 2 position with a win over Nebraska's Gitte Osterman and Katie Garcia 8-6. Nebraska won the doubles point as Carolin Walter and Daria Potapova fell to Rose Ketmayura and Leslie Harvey at No. 1 8-2.

Single competition went more smoothly for the Bears, as Baylor won the first set at all three positions. First to finish was Zuzana Krchnakova, defeating Anna Oehme 6-4, 6-1 from the No. 6 slot. Putting Baylor in the lead was Iva Mihaylova who defeated Pamela Castillejos 6-2, 6-0 playing at No. 5. Baylor's Daria Potapova added to the lead with a victory over Rose Ketmayura 6-4, 6-2. Clinching the match for Baylor with an upset over #31 Gitte Osteman, was #49 Carolin Walter at the No. 1 position with a score of 6-4, 6-4. The last two to finish for Baylor were Klara Zrustova at No. 3, followed by Daniela Covello at No. 2. Zrustova topped off Baylor's win going 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 for the win over Leslie Harvey. Covello fell to Milena Schulz-Gartner in a heat-breaking 5-7, 6-2, (12-10).

Baylor's next match is set for Wednesday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
