Under clear blue skies, the Baylor football team went through a two-hour and 30-minute workout Thursday afternoon in helmets and shoulder pads, splitting time between the grass practice fields and the new Floyd Casey Stadium turf. It marked the fifth of 15 spring practices for the Bears.
"There were a lot of good things on both sides of the ball today," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss.
As part of each practice session this spring, the Bears are spending time at the end of the workout in a special game-type situation that Morriss reveals just before the practice-ending segment. Today's situation was a first and goal from the 8-yard line with the Baylor offense needing a touchdown to win, with no timeouts and 45 seconds left in the game.
"It was too easy (for the offense) at the end," Morriss said. "We've got to be better down there. That is good, though, to put them in those situations. They'll hear about it (their performance) in the next set of meetings."
Sophomore quarterback Shawn Bell missed part of the workout with an injured thumb that he sustained during Tuesday's practice. The x-ray of Bell's injured thumb turned up negative, Morriss said.
The Bears will return to the practice field on Friday (4-2) at 2:40 p.m. All practices are open to the public.
