WACO, Texas - Head coach Joey Scrivano's women's tennis team, ranked No. 44 nationally, blanked the Kansas Jayhawks, 7-0, on Saturday at Wood Valley Racquet Club in Topeka, Kan. The victory raises Baylor's record to 9-9 overall and 5-2 in Big 12 play while Kansas drops to 5-12 and 3-4 in league action.
For the second time in league play this season, the Lady Bears swept all three doubles matches. Izabela Mijic and Zuzana Krchnakova, playing together for the first time this season, posted an impressive 8-2 win. Klara Zrustova and Daniela Covello won 8-4 at No. 2 and Carolin Walter and Daria Potapova posted an 8-5 victory.
Baylor swept singles as well on Saturday, its first singles sweep in league play of the season. Zrustova, playing at No. 4, extended her winning streak to four matches with her 6-1, 7-5 win over Brittany Brown. Iva Mihaylova reached the 20-win mark with her straight sets win at No. 5 over Luiza Loureiro, she is now 20-10 on the season.
Baylor will remain in Kansas and take on Kansas State on Sunday at 11 a.m. The Lady Bears will return home to host Oklahoma and Oklahoma State on April 16 and 17, respectively. The match between Baylor and the Sooners will begin at 5 p.m., and the Oklahoma State/Baylor match is set for 2 p.m.
