WACO, Texas - Oklahoma State scored 10 runs in the first five innings and never looked back en route to an 11-5 victory over Baylor in what proved to be the final game of the Big 12 Conference series Sunday at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears (14-19, 5-6) and the Cowboys (21-12, 4-4) were scheduled to play a doubleheader due to Saturday's rain out, but the nightcap was cancelled due to damp conditions.
Baylor got on the scoreboard first thanks to a Kyle Reynolds sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. However, the Cowboys were quick to answer with a couple of infield hits and a two-out error in the top of the second. Oklahoma State added four runs in the fourth on a Keanon Simon RBI fielder's choice, a Rod Allen RBI double and a Rusty Ryal two-run double.
That drove Baylor starter Jared Theodorakos from the game. Making his second start in conference play this season, Theodorakos (3-1) allowed seven runs, three earned, on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 4.0 innings. He also was victimized by two wild pitches and three passed balls.
Oklahoma State tacked on three more runs in the fifth off reliever Andy Pape. Baylor made a game of it late as Matt Forestiere drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Reid Brees had an RBI double in the seventh. After the Cowboys plated another unearned run in the ninth, the Bears plated two runs in the bottom of the frame on a Reynolds RBI single and a Josh Ford triple that plated Reynolds.
Spencer Grogan (8-1) went the distance for the Cowboys, allowing five runs on 13 hits and four walk s with 11 strikeouts. Pape was touched for four runs, two earned, on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings of relief.
Brees and Ford led the Bears at the plate with three hits each; Brees had three doubles, while Ford was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.
Baylor returns to action Tuesday, hosting Sam Houston State for a 6 p.m. CDT game at Baylor Ballpark.
