WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's golf team has been chosen as the 14th seed in the NCAA Central Regional, the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee announced Monday.
The Bears will be making their seventh straight NCAA Regional appearance. One of three regionals, the Central Regional will be hosted by Purdue May 20-22 at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind. Portland State is hosting the West Regional in Sunriver, Ore., and Yale is hosting the East Regional in New Haven, Conn.
"It's very exciting for me personally because this is the first time I'm going as a head coach, but I'm more excited for this team and for the seniors who have another chance to go out on a good note," head coach Greg Priest said.
"Every year it's important to extend the streak (of regional appearances), now we've got a chance to make it to nationals. We've got to take this program to the next step of making it to nationals every year and once we get there, we've got to take advantage of the opportunity."
The Top 10 teams plus two additional individuals from each 27-team regional will advance to the NCAA Championships hosted by Virginia Tech June 1-4 at The Homestead Cascade Course in Hot Springs, Va. The Bears have advanced to five NCAA Championships in their history, the last coming in 2002.
The Bears will tune up for the NCAA Central Regional with a final regular-season tournament this weekend as they compete at The Maxwell hosted by Oklahoma State Saturday and Sunday at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla.
