Ten Run Inning Dooms Lady Bears Against Huskers

OKLAHOMA CITY - Three errors in the fourth inning led to nine unearned runs for top-seeded Nebraska, as the Huskers scored ten runs in the inning to defeat the No. 19 Baylor softball team 10-1 in the semi-finals of the Big 12 Conference Tournament at the ASA Softball Complex. With the loss, the Lady Bears are eliminated from the tournament and drop to 46-15 on the season.

Baylor struck first in the contest, as a single by Carrie Leerberg scored Harmony Schwethelm to give Baylor a 1-0 lead in the third inning.

After Nebraska was held scoreless in the bottom of the inning, the Huskers struck for 10 runs in the fourth on eight hits and three Baylor errors. Nine of the runs were unearned as the Huskers sent 15 batters to the plate in the inning.

Devin Porter had the key hit in the inning for Nebraska, as she hit a three-run triple to make the score 10-1. Nebraska starting pitcher Peaches James also added two hits in the inning, as the Huskers capitalized on every Baylor mistake.

James retired the Lady Bears in order in the fifth to record the win, tossing five innings while allowing two hits and one run to move to 33-7 on the season.

Ferguson saw her record drop to 15-6 on the season, allowing only one earned run in four innings of work.

Baylor will now shift its focus to the NCAA Softball Championships as the Lady Bears will learn who will be traveling to Getterman Stadium to open regional play on Thursday, May 20.
