Baylor head coach Glenn Moore
"We challenged the girls to come out a little more aggressive. We took a lot of first pitches for strikes and we took a lot of third-pitch strikes yesterday. We challenged them to come out more agressive, and I think they did a great job of that. I was very pleased on how Lisa (Ferguson) came in to pitch when Cristin (Vitek) didn't look like she would bounce back. It's just great to move to the next round."
"I felt like (Vitek) would be able to bounce back. If you would've seen the look on her face when I was walking out there for the second time, she didn't want to come out of that game. We hadn't scored a lot of runs and I had to have a short leash. We can't allow too much of a deficit before we make a change. We have two good pitchers, so we are able to do that."
"It is so important to stay in the winner's bracket. We only have two pitchers and when you get into a loser's bracket early it can wear your pitchers down in a hurry. It is a big advantage to stay in the winners bracket."
Baylor Infielder Kim Wilmoth
"We were more comfortable with a win under our belt and like coach said we wanted to be more aggressive and in attack mode. We wanted to finish it in seven. Yesterday we were putting the ball in play, but they just weren't falling our way. So today anything that was around us, we were going to attack, because the more balls you put in play the more chances you have of getting on and scoring. We wanted to have a lot going on on our side so we could score first."
Baylor pitcher Lisa Ferguson
"It doesn't really matter to me whether if I start or come in. I take it the same way. If I'm starting the game I prepare a little bit earlier. But even when Cristin starts I prepare at the beginning of the game because you never know."
"I had a pretty good drop ball and my curve ball worked for a few innings. but I think I kicked a lot of (the nerves) out in the bullpen before the game. I am just excited we are here and are getting to play. It's a great feeling and it's great for Baylor all the way around. We have worked so hard and we deserve it."
Baylor third baseman Stephanie Pomes
"My approach is basically the same, just go out swininging. I was looking for strikes. Anything around the zone, I was going to attack. They just weren't falling in there yesterday, but I got lucky today and hit one. It felt good."
Illinois head coach Terri Sullivan
"I think it's a game of momentum at this point. Baylor was able to grab some momentum early by scoring first. We had a couple of chances to come right back, but we didn't grab the opportunity when we had it. We never really got any offense going, so we hope to wake up our bats. When you go into the loser's bracket you have a little bit of an insurance policy with double elimination, but we need to step up and play better."
"That's the nature of the game. If you get caught up in worrying about things out of your control you don't get things done. The only thing we can control is being aggressive at the plate, and trying to move the ball, scoring, and playing aggressive defense."
Illinois outfielder LeeAnn Butcher
"I thought (Ferguson) did well. She stepped up for them big time and won the game for them. Her ball was moving a little bit, but I saw the ball well. She is tough."
"It changed the momentum of the game. They kept getting the brakes and the hits, and we couldn't. We have another game to win and move on."
