WACO, Texas - Amanda Fortune threw a four-hit shutout to lead second seed Illinois to a 2-0 victory over fourth-seeded Seton Hall Saturday in the 2004 NCAA Softball Waco Regional at Baylor's Getterman Stadium.
The win advanced the Illini (44-20-1) to an elimination game against third seed Baylor, which beat Illinois 5-0 Friday, 30 minutes following the game. With the loss the Pirates (46-19) were eliminated.
A two-out double to left-centerfield by Janna Sartini plated Elene Planinsek in the bottom of the second inning and gave Illinois a 1-0 lead and was all the offense Fortune needed. Fortune improved her record to 30-10 with the victory.
The Illini added a run in the bottom of the fourth when a failed pick-off attempt scored Lindsey Hamma from third base.
Seton Hall starter Casey McDevitt (10-7) took the loss.
