Bears Complete Second Workout

A day after working in near-ideal conditions, the Baylor football team battled the heat during Tuesday afternoon's two-hour practice on the Floyd Casey Stadium practice fields. "I think all of the emotion is gone and the newness (of fall camp) has kind of worn off," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss. "Early on we were dragging around a little bit, but we finished pretty good. "They (the players) have to get a hold of their brains and fight through it (the heat)," he added. "It is going to be hot for the rest of camp and it is going to be hot Sept. 4 when we take the field in Birmingham. We have to learn to execute and think when we are hot and tired." The Bears will return to work Wednesday with another 4 p.m. practice in preparation for their Sept. 4 season-opener at UAB. Baylor Fall Camp Notes: For the second consecutive day, Baylor senior defensive end/tight end Luke Groth (Fort Stockton, Texas) and senior wide receiver Marques Roberts (Luling, Texas) were held out of practice due to injuries ... Junior free safety Maurice Lane (Killeen, Texas) and sophomore punter Daniel Sepulveda (Dallas, Texas) recently received second-team preseason All-Big 12 honors from Rivals.com ... Senior linebacker Justin Crooks (Roundrock, Texas) celebrated his 22nd birthday with an interception during Tuesday's workout ... Baylor will hold the first of four two-a-day workouts Aug. 14, with other double sessions slated for Aug. 16, 18 and 20 ... The story of Baylor's 1974 Southwest Conference championship football team, "Believe Again: The Story of the Miracle on the Brazos," debuted on KWBU-TV Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. and is slated for encore presentations Aug. 11 at 10:30 p.m. and Aug. 13 at Noon ... The team's annual fan appreciation event, Meet the Bears Day, has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 21, at Floyd Casey Stadium beginning with a scrimmage at 9:15 a.m. followed by fan tours of Baylor's football facilities (including the press box and sky box area) and an autograph session with the players from 12:30-2 p.m.
