The Baylor football team concluded its two-a-day workouts for fall camp with a pair of practices on Friday on the Floyd Casey Stadium turf. The Bears will hold a controlled scrimmage on Saturday morning, then host their annual fan appreciation day, Meet the Bears, from 12:30-2 p.m. at Floyd Casey Stadium. "The whole practice was a struggle for the offense from the get-go today," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss. "It wasn't very good, period. I know they are tired, but we are going to be tired in the fourth quarter at UAB and you have to be able to think and execute. We did a lousy job of that today." Saturday's practice starts at 9:15 a.m. and the scrimmage portion of the workout will be the Bears final tune-up before breaking fall camp and starting classes on the Baylor campus Aug. 23. BU opens the 2004 season Sept. 4 at UAB. "It has to be a work day," Morriss said of Saturday's workout. "The offense has to pick it up. We wasted an afternoon and we have to make it up tomorrow. If I don't get what I want tomorrow, we'll stop and start all over because we've got all day to get it in. "The defense got after us today and we couldn't find anyone to get us rallied," he added of Friday's workout. "We were trying to get through the week without wasting a practice, but we didn't get that done." Eight players missed Friday's practices including junior offensive lineman Glen Oskin (knee strain), senior defensive end/tight end Luke Groth (back), sophomore defensive tackle Julian Hill (shoulder), sophomore running back Brandon Whitaker (knee strain), sophomore defensive tackle Quincy Jenkins (ankle sprain), sophomore fullback Jonathan Sisk (hamstring), sophomore defensive tackle M.T. Robinson (knee) and junior linebacker Tyler Lindstrom (broken hand). Freshman linebacker James Francis Jr. returned to work Friday after being held out the last few workouts with a hip-flexor. As part of Baylor's Meet the Bears activities, all fans are invited to attend Saturday's scrimmage from 9:15-11:15 a.m. in Floyd Casey Stadium, tour the Bears' football facilities, including the press box and sky box areas, and sample some of the new concession items that will be served this fall in the stadium from 11:15 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Fans attending the scrimmage are asked to enter Floyd Casey Stadium through Gate 5. At 12:30 p.m., Morriss and the 2004 Baylor football team will be on hand to greet fans, pose for photographs and sign autographs in the Bears' locker room, which is located in the stadium's north end zone complex at ground level. Fans will be able to enter the locker room from the complex's ground floor entrances. The first 1,000 fans attending Saturday's event will receive a coupon good for one free concession item and there will be free popcorn for all attendees. Fans will also be able to purchase concession items as well as shop for Baylor Athletics merchandise and apparel at the Bear Essentials Store.
