The Baylor football team concluded fall camp with an 80-play controlled scrimmage Saturday morning in Floyd Casey Stadium. The Bears' offense turned in a balanced performance, totaling 140 yards on the ground and 160 through the air. "We are about where I thought we'd be," Morriss said. "I was pleased with today, being it is the last day technically of camp and the kids are tired. We scripted it more in the offense's favor, since most of it was from the 40-yard line and in. I think it helped our offensive kids to have some success today. Next week we need to have some 10 and 12 play drives and see if we can operate and sustain some drives." The Bears' quarterback dual between sophomore Shawn Bell and junior Dane King continued Saturday. Bell completed 8-of-18 passes for 85 yards and three touchdowns, while King was 6-of-18 through the air for 75 yards and three scores. Both players were picked off once during the workout. "From my take on it, Shawn (Bell) probably had the better day today," Morriss said. "You all think I'm kidding about that Friday night announcement (before the UAB game), but it may come down to that. "We've got this extra week in here and I would imagine that by the end of next week it'll be pretty clear," he added. "I think it would be fair to whoever gets the nod that he have chance to have a week behind the line and that going into the game everyone kind of knows their role. "In fairness to everyone, the other kids I'm sure are waiting to find out, too. I don't think there's any reason right now to say ok here are the starters because there's still two weeks left to go." Senior running back Anthony Krieg led the Baylor ground game with 63 yards on two carries and scored the scrimmage's first touchdown on a 58-yard run. Sophomore running back Paul Mosley had a scrimmage-high 10 carries for 35 yards, one of which was a three-yard scoring run, and freshman running back Jacoby Jones had eight rushes for 30 yards and scored on a two-yard run to close the workout. Junior wide receiver John Martin caught three passes for 68 yards on the day. He caught a 40-yard pass from King to the scrimmage's third score, a reception that marked the longest of the morning. Sophomore wide receiver Dominique Zeigler had three receptions for 40 yards and one score. Baylor's top two tight ends, senior Marcus Venus and freshman Mike Miller, both caught a pair of touchdown passes during the team's red zone situation. After holding 17 practices over the last 13 days without a break, the Bears will take Sunday off before returning to work on Monday, which also marks the first day of classes on the Baylor campus. Scrimmage Notes: After failing to force a turnover a week ago, the Baylor defense forced two in today's workout, as junior defensive back Willie Andrews and sophomore defensive back C.J. Wilson each recorded a pick ... Eight players missed the scrimmage including junior offensive lineman Glen Oskin (knee strain), senior defensive end/tight end Luke Groth (back), sophomore defensive tackle Julian Hill (shoulder), sophomore running back Brandon Whitaker (knee strain), sophomore defensive tackle Quincy Jenkins (ankle sprain), sophomore fullback Jonathan Sisk (hamstring), sophomore defensive tackle M.T. Robinson (knee) and junior linebacker Tyler Lindstrom (broken hand) ... Following the scrimmage, the Baylor coaches and team met with a crew of Big 12 game officials to go over 2004 rule changes ... The players and coaches then hosted their annual fan appreciation day, Meet the Bears, at Floyd Casey Stadium.
