WACO, Texas - After an off day, the Baylor football team returned to practice Monday evening with a two-hour half-pad workout on the Floyd Casey Stadium turf. "You could watch practice today and tell it was the first day of class, because their minds were drifting a little bit, especially offensively," Baylor coach Guy Morriss said. "That's always the way it goes on the first day of class. "We tried to warn them about it, but it happens every year," he added. "We got through it, now we have to come back out tomorrow, refocus and get back to work." The Bears stopped practice with about two plays left to watch NBC's taped-delayed coverage of Baylor track standout Jeremy Wariner's gold-medal winning 400-meter race from Athens, Greece and the Games of the 27th Olympiad "I think they probably knew it (that Jeremy won), but they hadn't seen it yet," said Morriss. "I really don't know what to say, it is just overwhelming really, a great performance. All of the kids know Jeremy and he's wearing the Green and Gold. It is pretty significant to stop and watch an Olympic champion at work. That's why we did it." Baylor will now settle into its normal practice routine starting on Tuesday with a 2:30 p.m. workout at Floyd Casey Stadium. Practice Notes: Today marked the first day of classes on the Baylor campus ... Senior tight end Luke Groth (back), sophomore defensive tackle Quincy Jenkins (ankle) and sophomore fullback Jonathan Sisk (hamstring) all returned to practice Monday after missing time last week due to injury ... Sophomore defensive tackle Julian Hill (shoulder), junior linebacker Tyler Lindstrom (broken hand), junior offensive guard Glen Oskin (knee), sophomore defensive tackle M.T. Robinson (knee) and sophomore running back Brandon Whitaker (knee) continue to be sidelined by injury ... Of the Bears' quarterback derby between sophomore Shawn Bell and junior Dane King, Morriss said, "Right now in my mind, it is still up for grabs."
