WACO, Texas - - Baylor University has partnered with Sul Ross Elementary for its Character Education program, providing a football ticket to each child that successfully completes the requirements.
The program includes five guidelines that lead to becoming a good, responsible citizen. Students are encouraged to engage in active listening and give their personal best. Additionally, they are expected to tell the truth, act in a trustworthy manner and not put each other down.
After completing the program, Sul Ross students will receive a free football voucher as a reward for their character. Baylor Athletics provided 80 vouchers in anticipation of many children exhibiting excellent character skills.
Cindy Strunk, the physical education instructor and program coordinator, is excited about the children's progress.
"I have done this program with Baylor for 12 years and I always have a good response," said Strunk. "This year, the kids are surprising me! They are doing so well!"
"I might need more vouchers," she joked.
Strunk and other volunteers will take the good citizens to the Baylor-North Texas game Sept. 25, so they may take advantage of their reward.
