The Baylor football team concluded its work for the week with a two hour practice in shells Thursday afternoon on the grass practice fields. With this weekend's open date, coach Guy Morriss will give his team a three-day break from football as the Bears won't get back to practice until Monday evening ahead of their Sept. 25 game against North Texas.
"It was a real good practice again today," said Morriss. "We've had two good days back-to-back in this heat. At this point, they deserve a break. I thought that the last two days they've come back to life and shown me some things that we've been missing up until this point.
"I think the rest will do them good," he added. "They'll have about three days to get rested up and hopefully they'll come back ready to play ball because we've got a long stretch here. So, we have to get it right."
First-team sophomore wide receiver Dominique Zeigler missed his second consecutive workout with an illness, but redshirt freshman defensive back Brannan Moton and redshirt freshman wide receiver Derrick Jones both returned after missing Wednesday's practice. Baylor's sophomore starting outside safety Maurice Linguist, who injured his left ankle sprain during Wednesday's practice and missed the last half of that workout, was held out of Thursday's practice and is questionable for the North Texas game.
Practice Notes: Redshirt freshman defensive back Jason Reaux broke his wrist in practice Sept. 9 and will be sidelined for the rest of the season ... Others who missed Thursday's practice included sophomore defensive lineman Julian Hill (shoulder), junior linebacker Tyler Lindstrom (broken hand), sophomore running back Brandon Whitaker (knee), junior wide receiver John Martin (neck), sophomore defensive end Paul Howard (hamstring), freshman linebacker Ben Hixson (sore hip), redshirt freshman defensive back Zach Zachry (hamstring) and senior defensive back David Schieck (hamstring) ... Tickets for Baylor's Sept. 25 6 p.m. game against North Texas are on sale through the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office, over the phone at 1-800-Baylor-U or on the web at www.baylorbears.com ... Scout team player of the week awards for the Texas State game went to freshman offensive lineman Vincent Rhodes and freshman linebacker Bradley Bullitt.
