WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's tennis team had a strong showing the first day's action of the nine-team HEB Baylor Intercollegiate Fall Invitational at the Baylor Tennis Center on Friday. Four singles players advanced to the round of 32 and two doubles teams moved into the quarterfinal round.

Sophomores Carolin Walter and Zuzana Cerna and freshman Zuzana Zemenova each won their matches handily, defeating their opponent in straight sets. Sophomore Klara Zrustova needed three sets to down Tusla's Carla Zabaleta. In other singles action, Georgia Tech's Kristi Miller defeated the tournament's top seed, Dianne Hollands of Arizona 6-2, 7-5. Unseeded Ristine Olson of Texas upset fifth-seeded Lyndsay Shosho of Georgia Tech 7-5, 6-4. Baylor's Daniela Covello and Suzana Krchnakova each fell to defeat in the round of 16 but not before extending their matches to three sets.

Two doubles teams advanced to the quarterfinals. The tandem of Covello and Walter, the tournament's third seed, prevailed over Rice's Blair DiSesa and Kimberly Patenaude, 8-5. Baylor newcomers Zuzana Cerna and Zuzana Zemenova, seeded No. 4, downed Georgia Tech's Lyndsay Shosho and Lindsey Stauss, 8-5.
