DENTON, Texas-A late goal by North Texas' Richelle Magalhae in the 86th minute gave the Mean Green a 2-1 win over Baylor in action at the Mean Green Soccer Complex. With the loss, Baylor dropped to 2-3-1 on the season as North Texas improved to 5-1 on the year.
North Texas opened the match with an early goal when Kristen Campbell's cross found Melinda Pina at the six yard box in the game's third minute. Pina one-timed the shot past Bear goalkeeper Ashley Holder for her second goal of the season.
The Bears rebounded in the 35th minute on a goal from Tiffany Boshers, who headed in a cross off the foot of Jennifer Martin; but, Magalhaes' first goal of the season would prove the game winner.
Baylor and North Texas each had ten shots on the game as Baylor held a 2-0 edge in corner kicks. The teams combined for 31 fouls in a physical contest, as Baylor was whistled for 20 fouls on the night.
Mean Green goalkeeper Briana Buchanan made two saves on the night for her fifth win of the year. Holder made four stops in goal for the Bears; but, took the loss.
Baylor will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 19, when the Bears host UC Irvine at 1:00 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Field. Tickets to the contest are $5 for adults and $3 for children and can be purchased through the Baylor Ticket Office by calling 1-800-BAYLOR-U or 710-1000.
