Baylor sophomore Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) fired back-to-back rounds of 2-under par 70 and is third only one stroke behind the leaders, while the Bears are in fourth after the first two rounds of the Baylor Invitational Monday at the 7,250-yard, par-72 Bear Ridge Golf Club.
Alcorn blistered the par fours, playing them 5-under par and averaging a tournament-best 3.75 average per hole on the par fours. Alcorn also carded two of tournament's eight eagles.
Sophomore Matt Briggs (San Antonio, Texas) is tied for 14th at 147 after a round of even-par 72, followed by a 75. Briggs played the par-fives at 4-under par, averaging 4.50 strokes per par five. Sophomore Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) is tied for 30th at 150 after shooting a pair of 75s.
Sophomore transfer Brian Meck (Austin, Texas) is 33rd at 151, shooting rounds of 75 and 76. Meck, playing in his first tournament at Baylor, is tied for the tournament lead in par-five scoring, playing them at 5-under par and averaging 4.38 strokes per par five. Junior Will McDonald (Birmingham, Ala.) is tied for 40th at 155, with rounds of 78 and 77.
Baylor also has two individuals competing with Dusty Isabell (Athens, Texas) posting the best round of the day by a Bear with a first-round 69, including a 32 on the front nine. Isabell shot 74 in the second round and is in seventh at 143. Sophomore Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) tied for 44th at 156 with rounds of 81 and 75.
Lamar leads the tournament at 9-under par 567 (283-284), 15 strokes ahead of Texas-Arlington and Louisiana-Monroe and 19 ahead of Baylor (292-296=588). Southeastern Louisiana's Hugo Leon (69-70) and Lamar's Dusty Smith (66-73) are tied for the individual lead at 139. Arkansas-Little Rock's Patrick Sullivan recorded the first hole-in-one in Baylor Invitational history by using an eight iron to ace the par-3, 152-yard 10th hole*.
The tournament concludes with the final round Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.
