The difference between wanting to be good and being good is doing what it takes to be good. So is the case with the 2004 Baylor football team.
Prior to the UAB and Texas State games we had not done what it took to be a successful football team. Things such as assignments, penalties, effort and passion are what this team had lacked prior to the North Texas game.
The North Texas game seemed to be a real turning point for this team. We played with such enthusiasm and fire, that it felt like nobody could beat us. We made very few mistakes and swarmed on defense, offense dominated its phase of the game and special teams played the best that we have played all year. We beat a very good Sun Belt team that will do well in its conference.
But we have bigger challenges ahead that we have to look forward to starting with this week's Big 12 opener at Texas.
This week we will prepare to go down to Austin and play Texas. The Longhorns are by far one of the most talented teams we will face this year and there will be no room for error on our part for us to win.
If we are going to have a chance to win this weekend, we are going to have to have a great week of practice and prepare our minds in such a way that leaves no doubt that we can play with this team. If there is any doubt in our minds going into this game, that will beat us alone. I believe that we will match up well against these guys and I know that my guys will play their hearts out.
Thank you for supporting our program and for coming out to watch us against North Texas. That was incredible seeing so many fans in the stands. The fans that attended fed our team enough that that was what probably beat North Texas. So we will need you again, if you can, this week in Austin and for sure the next week against Missouri.
Thanks again and Sic `em Bears!
- Justin
