WACO, Texas - Women's tennis' Zuzana Cerna (pronounced Cherna) and Zuzana Zemenova travel to Southern California this weekend to participate in the prequalifying rounds of the 2004 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif.

In first round singles action on Sat., Oct. 2, Cerna, a sophomore, will face Elena Gantcheva of UNLV. Zemenova, a freshman, is set to face Maryland's Jennifer Dent, a junior, on Wednesday. Cerna's match will begin at 10:30 a.m. CST and Zemenova's is slated to start at 2:00 p.m. CST. The duo will also play a doubles match on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. They will take on Nicole Shabaz and Samantha Waller of Cal Poly.

The tournament will be Cerna and Zemenova's second competitions as Baylor Bears. They participated in the Baylor Intercollegiate Tournament where Cerna posted a 1-1 record and Zemenova was 2-1.

Players must win four matches in order to advance into the qualifying tournament and are eliminated after their first loss. The qualifying and main draw will be held at the Riviera Tennis Center in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

The ITA Women's Championships is the first of three national singles and doubles titles of the 2004-05 collegiate season. The Nov. 4-7 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships and the year-end NCAA Championships are the other two national collegiate tournaments.

The field of almost 300 athletes will compete to advance into the qualifying draw. This weekend, 128-singles and 64-doubles teams will compete to make the cut to 64-singles and 32-doubles slots in the qualifying tournament Oct. 5-6. The main draw of the tournament will consist of 32-singles and 16-doubles teams Oct. 7-10.
