Gainesville, Fla. - Baylor's tennis match with No. 2-ranked University of Florida scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon was canceled due to inclement weather. The match will not be rescheduled.
The Gators, who were aiming to win their 20th consecutive season-opener, began the dual match capturing the doubles point, sweeping all three positions. Shortly after singles action began, rain caused a short delay but the athletes were able to resume action within 12 minutes. However a few minutes later a significant rain cloud burst causing play to be halted at 3:45 p.m.
After waiting out the second weather delay that lasted more than four hours, officials deemed the courts still unplayable and the dual match finally was abandoned at 8 p.m.
Baylor returns to the courts on Sunday, January 23, when the team plays at Florida State.
