WACO, Texas - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released draws for its Southwest Regional tournament this morning and highlighted all seven Baylor Bears competing in College Station tomorrow. Of the seven singles players, five were seeded in the top 16 as were all three doubles teams.
As the reigning NCAA singles champion, Zuzana Zemenova received the first seed while Carolin Walter is fourth, Klara Zrustova is 10th, Zuzana Cerna is 12th, and Daniela Covello is 13th. In doubles rankings, Baylor's duos appear seeded in this order: Covello and Walter at third, Cerna and Zrustova at eighth, and Zuzana Krchnakova and Iva Mihaylova at 16th.
The main draws begin at Texas A&M's George P. Mitchell Tennis Center Friday, Oct. 21 with doubles. Baylor's Cerna/Zrustova team will play at 3 p.m. against the University of Texas-Pan American's Katherine Barto and Sheila Mubalac. The two other tandems play at 4 p.m. with Covello/Walter playing Northwestern State's Marcia Alcantera and Fernanda Silva while Krchnakova/Mihaylova compete against Tiffany McLaughlin and Yolandi Terblanche from the University of Houston.
Singles main draw begins Saturday, Oct. 22. Zemenova, Covello, and Zrustova will play winners from the qualifying rounds that have not yet finished. Krchnakova is scheduled to play Tulane's Erika Valdes and Cerna will compete against Christine Dao from Rice. Walter is matched with Tulane's Hedvig Lofdahl while Mihaylova will play Sam Houston State's Lata Assundani. All singles matches are scheduled for noon.
