WACO, Texas -
Participating in the sixth tournament of the Baylor's fall line-up, seven women's tennis players will compete this weekend in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Southwest Regionals in College Station, Texas. Texas A&M is hosting the tournament starting Friday, Oct. 21, and play will continue through Tuesday, Oct. 25 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. Draws include Division I schools from Texas and Louisiana.
The two singles finalists and the doubles champion team will earn spots in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus during Nov. 3-6.
Baylor's entire women's roster will be competing with the exception of Carline Korsawe who is out with an injury. The seven singles participants, seniors Daniela Covello and Zuzana Krchnakova, juniors Zuzana Cerna, Iva Mihaylova, Carolin Walter, and Klara Zrustova, and sophomore Zuzana Zemenova are all seeded. This tournament will be Zemenova's first collegiate tournament of the year after competing in two professionals early this fall.
The three doubles teams, Walter/Covello, Zrustova/Cerna, and Mihaylova/Krchnakova, are also seeded in the doubles main draw. All three duos have played together already in this preseason, the best pair being the undefeated Zrustova and Cerna who post a 4-0 record.
The doubles main draw begins Friday, Oct. 21 in the morning and continues all day. Singles main draw will begin Saturday morning.
