PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Baylor's Zuzana Cerna and Carolin Walter have finally made it to the singles main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American tournament. Cerna played two days in the prequalifying tournament in UCLA and advanced to the qualifying rounds where she met up with Walter and again played two more days. Teammate Daniela Covello also continues single play in the consolation bracket. The main draw begins Thursday, Oct. 6 in Pacific Palisades, California.
The qualifying tournament's last round, round of 16, was played today. In which, Cerna defeated UNLV's Elena Gantcheva 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) while Walter went on to beat Cal's Cristina Visico 6-3, 6-1. Their victories secured each of them a slot in the singles main draw.
In the singles consolation bracket, Covello faced Megan Recette from Iowa Wednesday and won that round of 16 match 6-4, 7-5. Times for the consolation bracket's next matches are not listed.
