Mihaylova Advances to Flight's Final

New York, N.Y. - The NTC Invitational today not only tested Baylor's tennis strength but also their mental toughness. All three Bears played at different locations around New York City due to rain which forced all draws to be moved to various indoor facilities. Assistant coach Rebekah Rhodes attempted to be with each girl at some point during the day but at some times, the girls were their own coaches.
The only player to advance through her flight, Iva Mihaylova defeated Ivana Kinf from Princeton 6-2, 6-3 in the C 1 Flight draw. She later received a walk for her second match due to an injury from Ashley Parisner of Brown. Finally in her last match of the day, Mihaylova beat Melissa Cornett of Arkansas 6-0, 6-4 in the semifinals. Tomorrow, Monday, Oct.10, Mihaylova is scheduled to play Karina Ledaja of Arkansas in the finals of the C 1 Flight.
Klara Zrustova lost in her first round of singles A 2 Flight draw to Aurelija Miseviciute of Arkansas 6-0, 6-4. Assistant coach responded to the score saying, "It was a long, hard fought match; it was much closer than the score shows." In Zrustova's back draw she defeated Boston's Gina Sabatino 6-2, 6-2.
And in the B 2 Flight draw, Zuzana Krchnakova lost her first match against Brown's Amanda Saiontz 4-6, 6-4, 7-10. She went on to play Harvard's Cindy Chu winning 7-5, 6-2. Krchnakova and Zrustova will partcipate in exhibition matches with girls from Arkansas tomorrow solely for practice.
This is the second tournament Krchnakova, Mihaylova, and Zrustova have participated in, the first being the Baylor Invitational which the team hosted at the beginning of September.
