Equestrian Team Ties for First After Day One

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - After the first day's competition, Baylor tallied 37 points among their 14 riders at the Texas A&M English IHSA show at College Station's N.W. `Dick' Freeman Arena. Oklahoma State also scored 37 points to share the top spot with the Bears. Baylor boasts two high-point riders, Nicole Brown and Susie Foster along with Oklahoma State's Michelle Woolschlager. High-point riders are those whose combined Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences scores rank highest among competitors.

The tournament consists of schools from Zone 7, Region 2 which includes Baylor, LSU, North Central Texas, Oklahoma State, Rice, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Trinity.

The Equitation over Fences events features Baylor riders in open, intermediate, and advanced levels. Brown and Foster each placed first in their sections while Amanda Esco played fifth in hers. The intermediate riders, Atlee Johnston and Shelby White, placed second and third respectively in their sections, and Jill Anthony placed fourth in her novice group.

In the Equitation on the Flat discipline, Brown and Foster again placed first in their sections while Mollie Smith placed fifth in hers in the open field. Johnston finished first in her intermediate section as White placed third in her intermediate group. Finally, Kim Marlowe ranked second in her novice section.

Baylor's advanced Walk-Trot-Canter riders, Lera Thompson and Jobi Spencer, placed third in their individual sections.

Tomorrow's events begin at 8 a.m. and will be judged by Magnolia, Texas' Kim Queener. Baylor's results can be found at www.baylorbears.com.
