Columbus, Ohio - At the ITA's National Indoor championships, Baylor's Zuzana Cerna, nationally ranked 122nd, came up with a tremendous win over No. 15 Kim Coventy from Kentucky. The round of 32 matches began this afternoon at the tournament which is being hosted for the first time by Ohio State.
The match lasted only two sets with Cerna sealing her victory with 6-1 and 6-3 scores. The win pairs her to compete against TCU's Nicole Liembach who is seeded first in the tournament and nationally sits at No. 3. Liembach automatically qualified for the Indoor championships by clinching the singles title at the Riviera/ITA All-American tournament early in October.
Cerna entered the tournament unseeded. She landed her an automatic bid for the Indoors by finishing as the runner-up in the Southwest Regionals late last month.
The women's round of 16 is scheduled to start after 12 p.m. and should Cerna win, her quarterfinal match would be played after 4:30 p.m.
