PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - After plowing through two rounds each, both Klara Zrustova and Zuzana Krchnakova advanced to the quarterfinals at the Desert Palms Classic today. After the Baylor vs. Baylor match, Zrustova sealed a spot in the semifinals which will be played tomorrow. The pair also played doubles but fell early in their first main draw and consolation matches.

In the round 32, Krchnakova defeated UCS's Luana Magnani 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 and then went on to beat Bela Mijic from UC-Irvine 6-3, 6-3 which placed Krchnakova in the quarterfinals.

Zrustova blew past UCLA's Elizabeth Lumpkin 6-3, 6-3 in first round before besting Natalie Braverman from Pepperdine 7-6, 7-6 in the round of 16.

Eventually the two Bears were matched against each other in the quarterfinal where Zrustova defeated Krchnakova 6-3, 7-6. "I am very pleased with the performance shown today by both young ladies. It's always exciting to have both players advance to the quarterfinals, and today Klara just played a little better," head coach Joey Scrivano said.

In the doubles round of 16, Zrustova and Krchnakova were defeated by Lindsey Nelson and Magnani from USC 9-7. The USC duo later finished first in the doubles bracket. The Baylor tandem again fell in their first consolation match against Lumpkin and Tracy Lin from UCLA ending with a hard-fought 9-8 score.

Zrustova's semifinal singles match is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 6.
