Longtime college football coach Greg Meyer has been selected as the Baylor Bear Foundation's new Director of Annual Giving, Director of Athletics Ian McCaw announced Friday. Meyer, who will begin his second tour of duty at Baylor next month, replaces Jeanne Nowlin who retired from the school's athletic development staff last spring.

"Greg has a tremendous passion and enthusiasm for getting back into intercollegiate athletics, which I find refreshing," Associate Athletic Director for Development Doug Smith said. "He has a background throughout a successful coaching career which stresses details and goals that make him an ideal fit for this position as we look to continue to grow our annual giving in the coming years."

Meyer served as Baylor's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 1999 through 2001, but most-recently has worked as a sales representative for Janssen/Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals. He was recognized as the company's 2004 year end district market share leader and received a similar district honor for his 2003 third-quarter performance.

"I appreciate another opportunity to work for Baylor and feel fortunate to be a part of a University that has a tremendous academic and athletic reputation," said Meyer. "I'm excited about returning to college athletics and look forward to helping the Bear Foundation enhance its financial resources for the benefit of Baylor's student-athletes."

Before joining the Bears' staff in 1999, Meyer played an instrumental role in Northwestern's rise to national prominence in the mid-1990s, serving as the Wildcats' offensive coordinator for seven years (1992-99). He was part of a Wildcat staff which led the school to Big 10 championships in 1995 and 1996 to culminate one of college football's greatest turnarounds ever.

He began his coaching career as an assistant football coach at Pomona High School in Arvada, Colo., where he worked from 1974 through 1979. From there, Meyer moved to Arizona State University and spent five seasons as an offensive assistant working with receivers and tight ends. He went to Wichita State in 1985 to coach quarterbacks and tight ends for two seasons before becoming the offensive coordinator at Ball State, where he also coached quarterbacks and receivers from 1987 until 1989. Meyer moved on to serve as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Toledo for two seasons, 1990-91, and helped lead the Rockets to a share of the Mid-American Conference title in 1990.

The Denver, Colo., native received his bachelor's degree from Northern Colorado in 1974. He lettered two seasons for the baseball Bears and was a member of the school's 1974 College World Series team which placed fifth nationally. Meyer and his wife, Daryl, have two daughters, Marisa and Makenzie.
