Women's Tennis Advances in ITA Rankings

WACO, Texas - In new rankings released today the Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranked the Lady Bears at No. 35. The women moved up from their preseason ranking of No. 41.

The Bears have faced four highly ranked teams in non-conference play. They defeated formerly ranked No. 31 Florida State who dropped to No. 40 in the new rankings. The bears have also faced No. 13 Georgia, No. 2 Florida and No. 31 Georgia Tech.

The women return six from a squad that finished the 2004 season ranked 43rd by the ITA. In individual rankings, No. 43 Carolin Walter leads the 2005 Lady Bears in singles who welcome newcomers No. 92 Zuzana Cerna, Carolin Korsawe, and Zuzana Zemenova.

The next ITA team rankings come on Feb. 8.

The women will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 12 when they take on Clemson in Waco.
