Women's Tennis Excels in Latest ITA Rankings

WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's tennis team advanced one spot from its previous ranking of No. 25 to No. 24 in the latest team rankings released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

ITA also released new individual rankings today that posted two Bears in the top 60 in the nation. Carolin Walter is the highest ranking Lady Bear at No. 51. Zuzana Zemenova made her debut in the rankings coming in at No. 57.

Baylor's previously ranked No. 9 doubles team of Daniela Covello and Zuzana Cerna are still ranked at No. 29.

This is the Bear's highest position since Joey Scrivano took over as head coach in the fall of 2002. The all-time highest ranking for the Bears came on February 20, 2002 when they earned a ranking of No. 21.

The Bears defeated the previously ranked No. 38 Pepperdine on Saturday 4-3. They are in Fort Worth today facing the No. 14 TCU Horned Frogs.

The next national team rankings will come out March 1. Individual rankings will be released March 8.

Baylor returns to back-to back action this weekend taking on No. 62 Florida International Friday, February 25 with a 1 p.m. match and UT-Arlington Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
