WACO, Texas - Baylor's baseball team moved up one spot in this week's national rankings. The Bears climbed to 10th in the first regular-season edition of the Baseball America Top 25 and to 20th in the first regular-season edition of the ESPN/Sports Weekly Coaches' Poll.
There was no movement in the first eight spots from Baseball America's preseason rankings. Arizona State, which hosts Baylor Feb. 25-27, dropped three spots to No. 12 after opening the season 3-3. That allowed Georgia to move up one spot to No. 9 and the Bears to climb into the top 10.
In the coaches' poll, Notre Dame dropped from 20th to 22nd despite not playing a game. That allowed Baylor to move up one spot, as did No. 21 Vanderbilt, which hosts the Bears March 11-13.
Baylor opens its 2005 season this weekend at the Minute Maid Park College Classic in Houston, Texas. The Bears face Houston at 3:30 p.m. CST Friday, Tennessee at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 19th-ranked Rice at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
