WACO, Texas -- After winning the fourth-annual Getterman Classic title and starting the season with a perfect 6-0 record, the Baylor softball team climbed three spots to No. 15 in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25. The ranking surpasses Baylor's current No. 17 ranking in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 as the highest ranking in school history.
Baylor climbed into the top 15 after posting a perfect 6-0 record at the Getterman Classic. The Lady Bears claimed the title for the third time in four years after Baylor completed two-game series sweeps against Centenary, Louisiana-Monroe and No. 22 Illinois.
Split even with 10 votes apiece, the Arizona Wildcats and the California Golden Bears sit atop this week's poll tied at No. 1. No. 1 Arizona will visit Getterman Stadium the weekend of Feb. 25 for the fourth-annual Compass Bank Invitational.
Baylor is one of five Big 12 Conference teams in this week's rankings as Texas (No. 4), Oklahoma (No. 12), Nebraska (No. 22) and Texas A&M (No. 23) in this week's poll.
The Lady Bears ranking will be put to the test this week as Baylor faces three top-15 opponents at this weekend's Louisville Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. Baylor will face No. 14 Oregon on Friday, Feb. 11, before facing No. 12 Michigan and No. 9 Tennessee on Saturday, Feb. 12.
Before No. 15 Baylor heads to the Louisville Desert Classic, the Lady Bears will host McNeese State in a doubleheader on Wednesday, Feb. 9, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
