COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-Baylor softball's Carrie Leerberg is one of 13 softball players from around the country selected as a NSCA All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year the National Strength and Conditioning Association announced Tuesday.
The selection marks the first time in program history a Baylor softball player has been honored for the award.
"Carrie is a phenomenal person both on and off the field. She continuously strives to become better then she was the day before," Baylor speed coach Brandon Marcello said. "Her uncompromising passion and dedication to the game is unparalleled. Her desire for being the best is evidenced by the endless investment of time through the extra work she does to ensure the team's success."
The senior second baseman ranks second all-time in Baylor history with 56 stolen bases and is the Lady Bears' career leader with eight triples. Last season, Leerberg was a first-team All-Big 12 Conference selection after finishing second in the conference with a .372 batting average.
The NSCA All-American Strength and Conditioning Athletes of the Year program recognizes those collegiate athletes whose athletic accomplishments, in the opinion of their strength coach, reflect their dedication to strength training and conditioning.
These athletes are also recognized for their academic and personal accomplishments and their integrity as student athletes. Power Systems, Inc. is the official sponsor of the program.
Baylor will return to action on Wednesday, March 2, when the Lady Bears face Oklahoma Christian at 5:00 p.m.
