Eight down and seven to go for the Baylor football team as coach Guy Morriss' Bears passed the halfway point of spring practice with Tuesday's two-hour full-pad workout on the Floyd Casey Stadium grass practice fields.
"We are about where I figured we'd be," said Morriss. "It has kind of see-sawed back and forth with both sides making plays. Both sides need to focus on the little things and the things we need to get better at. But, overall it has been a good spring so far."
"After a 120-play scrimmage on Saturday and two days off, they were a little bit sluggish, but they picked it up at the end," he added. "It was good to see the defense bounce back today. They had a pretty good 9 on 7 and got after us pretty good. Overall, it wasn't bad."
The Bears held their first scrimmage last Saturday and will scrimmage again during Thursday morning's workout before holding another full-scale scrimmage on April 16. A review of film from Saturday's workout provided no new insight according to Morriss.
"There were a lot of offensive kids who really impressed (the staff), but I think the defense had an off day," Morriss said. "They didn't tackle well and gave up too many big plays, but they bounced back today and I think we'll get all of that corrected. We'll see on Thursday when we scrimmage again to give them another round of it."
Notes: The Bears will take Wednesday off, then complete the week with workouts Thursday (9 a.m.), Friday (3 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.) to wrap-up the third week of spring practice ... Sophomore CB Braelon Davis (knee), senior OL Evan Stone (hamstring), senior OL Glen Oskin (ankle), junior C Will Blaylock (ankle) and sophomore CB Alton Widemon (hamstring) all missed Tuesday's workout due to injury.
