Despite the fact that classes were not in session on the Baylor campus Thursday, Coach Guy Morriss' football team went through a two-hour full-pad morning workout on the Floyd Casey Stadium turf.
"I was very pleased with the enthusiasm and energy level," said Morriss, whose team has five remaning practices before concluding spring drills with the April 23 Green-Gold Game. "We wanted to put them in some situations which is why we did the live stuff toward the end in the red zone.
"That's an area we have to get better at on both sides of the ball," he added. "The only way you are going to do that is by putting them in there and turning the heat up. That's what we'll do for every remaining practice session."
Morriss also announced following Thursday's workout that sophomore cornerback Braelon Davis (Dallas, Texas) will be sidelined for the remainder of the spring with a knee injury he sustained during last Saturday's full-scale scrimmage. Davis was listed No. 1 on the depth chart at cornerback after drawing five starts a year ago and making 24 tackles to 10th on the squad.
"He's got an ACL, but I think it is up in the air right now as to which way we are going with him," Morriss said. "There is a lot of swelling in the joint, so that has to go down before the doctors can really tell us what has to be done. All indications from the MRI are that it was torn, but to what extent they can't tell yet until the swelling goes down."
Notes: Senior offensive lineman Evan Stone practiced for the first time this spring after missing the first eight workouts with a hamstring injury ... In addition to Davis, sophomore cornerback Alton Widemon missed Thursday's practice with a hamstring injury and junior center Will Blaylock was out with an ankle injury ... Baylor will return to work Friday at 3 p.m. in preparation for its second major spring scrimmage this Saturday at 9 a.m. in Floyd Casey Stadium ... More details will be available soon, but Fox Sports Southwest is scheduled to broadcast a 30-minute report on Baylor's 2005 Spring Game on May 7 at 12:30 p.m.
