LAWRENCE, Kan. --- Stephanie Pomes' second home run of the day proved to be the game-winner, as her shot over the left field wall with two outs in the eighth inning gave the No. 8 Baylor softball team a come-from-behind 8-7 win over Kansas in action at Arrocha Ballpark. With the win, Baylor improves to 38-7, 6-4 in the Big 12, as Kansas falls to 19-17, 2-6 in conference play.
Baylor jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on the Jayhawks with three runs in the first inning. Kim Wilmoth followed with a single of her own, scoring Chelsi Lake, to give the Lady Bears a two-run lead. The Lady Bears' final run in the inning came when Kansas starter Serena Settlemier unleashed a wild pitch to Melissa Huffhines, scoring Stephanie Pomes, to give Baylor a 3-0 advantage.
After a scoreless second, Pomes led off the third inning with her ninth home run of the season, a line drive shot just inside the right field foul pole, as Baylor took a 4-0 lead.
With the Lady Bears holding a four-run lead, the Jayhawks cut the Baylor lead to one in the bottom of the inning when Heather Stanley lifted a three-run homer over the left field wall with one out to make the score 4-3.
Kansas then took the lead with three more runs in the fourth. Ashley Frazer, Nicole Washburn and Heather Stanley hit back-to-to-back-to-back RBI singles as Kansas took a 6-4 lead heading into the fifth.

Kansas extended the lead back to two with a run in the bottom of the inning, however, as Destiny Frankenstein was awarded home base when the third base umpire ruled an obstruction on the Lady Bears' third baseman.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth, Baylor's Kim Wilmoth slapped a single down the left field line, scoring Osburn and Harmony Schwethelm, as the Lady Bears managed to tie the game at 7-7.
Baylor put the final run on the board with two outs in the eighth when Pomes lifted the first pitch from Kansas pitcher Christina Ross over the left field wall as Baylor grabbed its first lead since the fourth inning.
Lynam, who came into the game in relief in the sixth, shut down the Jayhawks in the bottom of the inning to pick up the victory as she improved to 8-1 on the season after allowing no runs and no hits in 2.2 innings of work.
Ross took the loss for Kansas as she fell to 7-6 on the season after allowing four runs on nine hits in six innings of work.
Pomes led the way for Baylor, going three-for-five with two home runs, three home runs and two RBI in the victory. Wilmoth also had four hits in the game for the Lady Bears, the most hits by a single player in a game for Baylor this year.
