The Baylor football team completed its final full-pad practice prior to Saturday's Green & Gold spring game with a two-and-a-half workout Wednesday afternoon on the Floyd Casey Stadium grass fields. The Bears will drill in helmets and shorts on Thursday, then take Friday off before going through a full-scale scrimmage Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Floyd Casey Stadium.
"It was a pretty good practice for the last day in pads before the spring game," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss. "The defense was pretty good today. We put them in a lot of situations today to make them think when they are tired, which was good."
The third-year Baylor coach has not yet decided how his squad will be divided for Saturday's scrimmage. In past years, the players have held a draft among themselves to determine the squads.
"We are still kicking that around a little bit," said Morriss. "We may split them up and play more of a normal type game, but we'll consider that tonight and make a decision on that Thursday.
"I'm looking for us to keep improving Saturday and compete on every play," he added. "I want to see execution on both sides of the ball and good technique. We'll cut them loose and let them tackle. It will be all live, except for the quarterback."
Admission to Saturday's Green & Gold Game is free and fans are requested to enter the stadium through Gates 5 and 6 on the West side. The stadium's East entrances will be closed since the construction of the Grant Teaff Plaza extension began April 19.
Notes: Sophomore quarterback Terrance Parks will not require surgery on his index finger, which was cut during the Bears' April 16 scrimmage, according to Morriss. Parks, however, will not be available for duty on Saturday ... A youth clinic conducted by the Baylor football team will be held prior to the Spring Game at 11:30 a.m. ... As in the past, alums will play the first quarter in a flag-football format with the 2005 Bears picking up the scrimmage for quarters two through four and running between 100-120 snaps.
