Baseball Falls 4-2 in Game One Against Clemson

WACO, Texas-Trailing 2-1, Clemson's Stan Widmann delivered a two-run single in the top of the seventh as the Tigers rallied for a 4-2 victory over Baylor in game one of the NCAA Waco Super Regional. With the win, Clemson takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
With the win, Clemson improves to 43-21 on the season as Baylor falls to 42-22 with the loss.
Baylor got on the board first with a run in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. After Michael Griffin led off the inning with a double, Josh Ford brought him home on a ground-out RBI to short as the Bears took an early one-run lead.
Clemson tied the game; however, with a run in the third when Widmann scored with two outs on a wild pitch from Baylor starter Trey Taylor to make it 1-1.
Kevin Russo gave Baylor the lead for the second time in the game in the fourth as his bunt single scored Paul Witt from third to give Baylor a 2-1 lead.
Clemson rallied for two runs in the third, loading the bases with nobody out, as Widmann's single through the right side scored Travis Storrer and Kris Harvey to give the Tigers the lead.
The Tigers added an insurance run in the eighth when Taylor Harbin scored on an error as Robert Rohrbaugh came into the game and pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn his first save of the season.
Baylor left 14 runners on base in the contest and twice loaded the bases with nobody out and was unable to score.
Jeff Hahn picked up the win for Clemson and improved to 4-1 on the season after tossing two scoreless innings.
Trey Taylor took the loss for Baylor and fell to 7-6 on the season after allowing three runs on five hits in six innings of work.
Griffin led the way for Baylor in the loss, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored.
Widmann went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI in the win for the Tigers.
The best-of-three series between Baylor and Clemson will resume with game two on Sunday, June 12, at 3:00 p.m.
