WACO, Texas - Members of the Baylor Softball team participated in the Susan G. Komen Central Texas "Race for the Cure" in downtown Waco Saturday.
The race attracted a record number of participants from all areas of the country. Many were there to honor a friend or relative who has been affected by breast cancer. About 300 breast cancer survivors also participated in the race.
"Race for the Cure" raises thousands of dollars each year for breast cancer research. About seventy-five percent of the money raised stays in the Waco community and is used towards breast cancer education, screening, and treatment projects for those in need of medical assistance.
This is not the first time Baylor Softball has worked to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The team also participated in Chili's "Dine Out" Night in November, interacting with customers, taking orders, and serving food. The softball team had pink t-shirts made for the event and accepted donations from customers to go towards the foundation.
