Baylor to be Represented at ESPYs

WACO, Texas - Baylor women's basketball head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson and former Baylor track star and reigning Olympic champion Jeremy Wariner will be attending the 13th annual ESPY Awards on Wed., July 13 in Hollywood. Mulkey-Robertson, who led the Lady Bears to the NCAA Championship, will be representing the Baylor women's basketball team, one of five teams competing for the Best Team Award, while Wariner is one of three vying for Best Male Olympic Performer honors.

Best Team nominees:
Baylor Women's Basketball
Credentials: Beat three No. 1 seeds en route to winning the 2005 national championship. After starting the year No. 8 in the preseason rankings, won 20 straight games to end the season.

Boston Red Sox
Credentials: Won the World Series for first time since 1918. The first team in league history to trail 0-3 and win a best-of-seven series, beating the Yankees in the ALCS. Won eight straight games, including sweeping the Cardinals for the title.

New England Patriots
Credentials: Won their third Super Bowl in four years. Won 21 straight games, dating back to the 2003 season, breaking the previous NFL record of 18 straight set by five teams.

San Antonio Spurs
Credentials: Beat the Pistons in seven games for the NBA Championship.

USC Football
Credentials: The Trojans won their second consecutive national championship by beating Oklahoma, 55-19.

Best Male Olympic Performer nominees:
Michael Phelps, Swimming
Credentials: Tied the record for most medals at a Summer Games with eight, including six gold.

Cael Sanderson, Wrestling
Credentials: He was the only American wrestler to win gold in Athens, coming from behind in four of the five matches he won. He beat South Korea's Moon Eui-jae 3-1 in the 185-pound freestyle finals.

Jeremy Wariner, Track & Field
Credentials: After winning gold as the U.S. swept the 400 meters, he powered Team USA to gold medal in the 4 x 400 relay.

Matthew Perry will serve as host at The 2005 ESPY Awards. ESPN will televise the 13th annual industry-wide sports celebration Sunday, July 17 at 9 p.m. ET from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.

Best-known as an actor for the natural charm and quick-witted delivery he honed for 10 seasons on the smash hit television series Friends, Perry also is an avid tennis player with a lifelong love of sports. This will be his first time serving as host of The ESPY Awards, which will again be taped four days earlier (Wednesday, July 13).
