The Baylor football team went through its fourth and final two-a-day workout of fall camp Friday with a two-hour full-pad workout on the grass practice fields in preparation for an evening practice under the Floyd Casey Stadium lights. The focus of the evening workout was special teams.

"I think we've hit the wall physically," Baylor coach Guy Morriss said following his team's morning practice. "We are really tired. Overall, though, I feel good about the progress that we've made the last two weeks. Now, it is a matter of getting things polished for the opener.

"They need (a break), more mentally than anything," he added. "I know their legs are tired, but probably not as tired as they feel or think they feel. That's all controlled by the mind which is why we are backing it down the next four days."

The Bears were short-handed in the offensive line on Friday with senior tackles Evan Stone (foot) and Hunter Herring (knee) on the sideline along with junior tackle Travis Farst (knee). Sophomore tackle Nick Pace sprained his ankle during the workout, but is expected to return to practice Monday evening with Stone. Farst will likely miss the next week or two, while Herring may be sidelined for three weeks according to team trainers.

"I think we have the makings of a strong line," Morriss said. "You've got the first five and three or four of those back-up guys who can play. I believe we'll be OK, unless we just have a disaster."

The Bears will hold their final practice before classes begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m., then hold their annual fan day, Meet the Bears, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the north end zone building at Floyd Casey Stadium. The Bears, who haven't had an off day since fall camp opened, will take Sunday off before returning to work on Monday with an 8 p.m. workout at Floyd Casey Stadium.

All practices are open to the public and the media. Baylor opens its 2005 season Sept. 3 at SMU.

Notes: Morriss indicated that nothing had changed regarding the status of true freshman wide receiver David Gettis who is still working through issues with the NCAA Clearinghouse ... Senior wide receivers Ryan Jeffrey (broken left hand) and J Fields (hamstring) missed Friday's workouts as did freshman wide receiver Thomas White (hamstring) and freshman linebacker Justin Osinde (knee) ... Both season and single-game tickets for Baylor's five-game 2005 home schedule remain on sale through the school's Athletic Ticket Office (1-800-BAYLOR-U).
