The new Baylor-ISP Sports Network will continue to feature Waco's 1660 ESPN Radio as the flagship radio station for Baylor Athletics while maintaining the school's long-standing relationship with Dallas-Fort Worth's dominant news-talk station WBAP and enhancing its radio presence in both the Houston and San Antonio markets.
"Thanks to the outstanding work of our partners from ISP along with Nick Joos, Associate AD for Communications, John Morris, Director of Broadcasting, the Baylor-ISP Sports Network has expanded in coverage area and will offer more games than ever to our fans," said Ian McCaw, Director of Athletics.
As in previous years, Waco's 1660 ESPN Radio will continue to originate Baylor football, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball and softball game broadcasts during the 2005-06 academic year, "Guy Talk" featuring Bears' football coach Guy Morriss, the all-sports Baylor Hour from January through May and the daily Baylor Sportsbeat program.
Baylor football in the Metroplex will again be carried on 50,000-watt clear-channel blowtorch WBAP-AM 820 with some games being shifted to sister stations KESN-FM 103.3 or KMKI-AM 620 when conflicts arise. In addition, the WBAP family of stations will carry a 25-game package of Baylor basketball games during the 2005-06 season, an increase of 15 broadcasts from a year ago. The WBAP basketball broadcast schedule, which will feature a mix of men's and women's contests, will be determined in the near future.
In Houston, Baylor football will be carried on KKHT-FM 100.7, a 100,000-watt station that covers the entire metro area. The Bears return to San Antonio in 2005 on a 50,000-watt station, KRPT-FM 92.5, after being off the air in that market a year ago.
Other stations that will broadcast Baylor football during the 2005 season include: KYYW-AM 1470 (Abilene), KIXZ-AM 940 (Amarillo), KBST-AM 1490 (Big Spring), KLJT-FM 102.3 (Jacksonville), KJAK-FM 92.7 (Lubbock) and KYBI-FM 101.9 (Lufkin).
"We are proud of our partnership with Baylor Athletics and are excited about the expanded network coverage areas," said Shawn Becket, Assistant Vice President/General Manager of Baylor-ISP Sports. "We look forward to building this network in the coming years."
All programming originated by the Baylor-ISP Sports Network will be available free of charge to Baylor fans on the official web site for Baylor Athletics, www.baylorbears.com.
John Morris will return for his 19th year broadcasting Baylor football and men's basketball and will be joined in the football booth for the second straight season by J.J. Joe, a three-time Academic All-America quarterback who played for the Bears from 1990-93 and still ranks as the school's all-time passing leader with 5,995 yards. Ricky Thompson, a two-sport standout for Baylor, is back for his sixth season providing sideline color and analysis, while Craig Harper and Bobby Reynolds also return to the broadcast team.
Baylor and ISP Sports are in the first year of a seven-year agreement that will provide the Winston-Salem, N.C., company, recognized as the national leader in collegiate sports marketing, with exclusive multi-media rights for the school's highly-successful intercollegiate athletics program.
