WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's tennis team begins the 2005-06 season by hosting the tenth annual Baylor Invitational tournament this weekend at the Baylor Tennis Center. The tournament, which features both singles and doubles action, includes 28 players, three of which, all Baylor athletes, are nationally ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Baylor's head coach Joey Scrivano has scheduled seven schools to participate including TCU, SMU, UT-Arlington, Lamar, Southeastern Louisiana, and Baylor. At the end of last year, four of the schools were nationally ranked including Baylor at 14th, TCU at 19th, SMU at 65th and finally Southeastern Louisiana tied for 75th.
Scrivano enters the tournament with a complete roster of veterans as he returns the exact team with which he ended last season though only six of the eight players are competing. Four of his players are ranked in the ITA's preseason rankings. Of the four three are participating in the Invitational, No. 29 Carolin Walter, No. 101 Klara Zrustova, and No. 122 Zuzana Cerna, all juniors. In the doubles rankings, the duo made up of senior Daniela Covello and Walter is ranked at 26th.

Matches will start Friday morning at 9:00 and take place throughout Friday and Saturday. The championship matches for both singles and doubles will take place Sunday.
